Yellow Rose Of Texas
18×24 pastel on paper
I love painting flowers where the light is dramatic and glowing through the petals. I pushed the background back and darker to emphasize the light on the delicate petals. Leaves are often the most interesting part of a floral painting for me. I like capturing the various textures and colors they reflect. I tried to keep it more subtle this time so they wouldn’t steal the spotlight from the rose. The title refers to the origin of this rose in the garden of a friend of mine from Texas.
