Christopher Reid has won the SAA March 2018 Challenge. The theme was “Coastal Textures” in this competition from the UK. About Chris’s winning painting, Judge Kathie Jenkins said, “Wave 78 Excellent observation of wave action and colour. The paint has been kept clean and fresh, lively brushwork and I can smell the salt air.”
On Friday, March 16th, Chris participated in the Annual Western Cape Artist Society Merit Exhibiton held at Bright Street Gallery in Somerset West. Artists and collectors mingled while enjoying delicious appetizers brought by the artists.
His awards are as follows:
• A Bunch Of Variety- Best Acrylic
• Stone Lantern- Best Watercolor
• Cat Nap(acrylic)- Highly Commended
• Creation(pastel)- Commended.
The Art Boutique in Kleinmond, South Africa hosted Chris for a 2 day Landscapes & Seascapes workshop. Students worked on paintings from photo in a pastel, oils, or acrylic.
The Landscape Painting Workshop in Bryanston went wonderfully! Chris gave a short lecture and a pastel demo on day one. Students then painted around the garden and completed their paintings on the second day. Special thanks to Myrtle Wilson for providing such a beautiful venue and exquisite cuisine!
The Art Farm Figure Drawing Workshop in Alberton was a great experience for everyone! Students learned a wealth of information from Chris regarding painting the human figure- information that they will also be able to apply to any type of art they create.
