Noordhoek Plein Air Festival And Auction Huge Success!

There were somewhere in the neighborhood of 50 bidders and artists who participated in the Noordhoek Plein Air Festival, Saturday, April 7th! The auction was a huge success with part of the proceeds going to crime prevention initiatives for the Noordhoek area. Special thanks to Roger Melvill and Andrew John Hart for organizing the first EVER known plein air festival in South Africa!

Chris completed 3 plein air paintings in one day: Noordhoek Beach, Chapman’s Peak From Noordhoek Common and Noordhoek Farm Village, in order below. Congratulations to the lucky bidder #17 for acquiring my painting, Noordhoek Beach!

Christopher Reid Takes Over As IWSSA Head

Christopher Reid is now the head of the International Watercolor Society South Africa (IWSSA). Chris joined the IWSSA in 2017 and was asked to be the co-chair with former head, Cheryl Curnick. Chris recently organized the 2018 IWSSA National Watermedia Exhibition in Sea Point, Cape Town. Following the huge success of the Sea Point exhibition, Cheryl has asked Chris to take over as the IWS country head for South Africa. She said she felt that the IWSSA was in good hands and it was time for her to step down. Cheryl remains involved as an admin and in the IWS global organization.

The International Watercolor Society (IWS) is a non-profit organization which was established in January 2012 with the objective of promoting the world’s oldest and most deeply rooted painting technique; the art of watercolor. The organization is made up of IWS groups in over 80 countries.
